Why Work With Pontcanna Brassworks

  • Protects domestic boilers and cylinders

Prevents relief valves from lifting and stops internal heat exchanger damage caused by high line pressure.

  • Quiet pipework operation

Eliminates hydraulic shock and resonant shudder in copper pipes when fast-closing valves shut.

  • Standardised downstream flow

Maintains an even flow rate across mixer showers even when taps elsewhere in the property open.

How We Carry Out Work

  1. 1Take baseline pressure readingsWe fit digital and analogue test gauges to external draw-off points to record static and dynamic incoming pressure.
  2. 2Drain line and cut out failed unitThe supply is shut down at the boundary or internal stopcock, allowing clean removal of the compromised valve.
  3. 3Solder or press new brass PRVWe mount the new valve with proper flow orientation, using compression or press-fit copper unions.
  4. 4Calibrate and seal adjustment screwWe set the downstream pressure to 3.0 or 3.5 bar, verify unvented cylinder safety valves, and log the test data.

Questions about this service

How do I know my pressure reducing valve has failed?

Common signs include vibrating pipes when taps turn off, continuous dripping from the unvented cylinder tundish, or erratic shower flow.

What is the recommended household water pressure in Cardiff?

Most residential systems and brassware manufacturers specify between 2.5 and 3.5 bar for safe, quiet operation.

Does the replacement valve include a pressure gauge?

Yes, we install valves fitted with a direct dial gauge so you can check downstream line pressure at any time.
